The New Zealand government has officially revealed its changes to the Work to Residence visa as well as occupations on the Green List.

From the 8 April 2024, 9 ANZSCO occupations will be added to the Green List.

Under the Straight to Residence category, the following occupations have been added (with their corresponding ANZSCO occupation codes):

  • Aeronautical Engineer(Aerospace/Avionics/Aviation) (233911)
  • Naval Architect/Marine Designer (233916)
  • Mechanical Engineering Technician (312512)
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics) (323111)
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)  (323112)
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Structures)  (323113)
  • Database Administrator (262111)
  • Systems Administrator (262113)

There has also been one addition under the Work to Residence category (2 years of work in NZ before eligible) and that is Corrections Officers (442111) .

The Occupation of Operating Theatre Technician (311214) has also been replaced with Sterilisation Technician (711914) on the Straight to Residence Pathway.

Bus and truck drivers who are wanting to apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa on or after the 7th April 2024 will no longer be eligible for a Transport Work to Residence Visa, however if you already an AEWV or have applied for one already and are approved will still be eligible.

These previously announced roles that were to be added on the Green List are now no longer being added.

  • Paving Plant Operator
  • Metal Fabricator
  • Pressure Welder
  • Welder
  • Fitter (General)
  • Fitter and Turner
  • Fitter-Welder
  • Metal Machinist (First Class)
  • Panel Beater
  • Vehicle Painter
  • Road Roller Operator

The addition of these 7 roles to the Construction and Infrastructure Sector Agreement will also not progress:

  • Driller’s Assistant
  • Earthmoving Labourer
  • Earthmoving Plant Operator general
  • Linemarker
  • Machine Operators not elsewhere classified
  • Mechanic’s Assistant
  • Road Traffic Controller
